Sœur Theresa Martel, native de l'Ancienne-Lorette, Québec,  Canada,  est entrée dans la Congrégation des Sœurs de la Charité de Saint-Louis,  il y a plus de 55 ans.  Elle a consacré sa vie à l’éducation des enfants dans la région nord de l’État de New York. Sœur Theresa enseigna d’abord à Keeseville et à Redford puis fonda l’École de Secrétariat Our Lady of Victory à Plattsburgh.  Pendant 35 ans, cette école fut, pour bon nombre de jeunes hommes et de jeunes femmes de la région, un véritable tremplin vers des carrières prometteuses en affaires.  Sœur Theresa enseigna dans cette école dont elle assura aussi la direction jusqu’en 1993, puis elle continua sa carrière d’enseignante pendant six autres années au Clinton Community College. Pendant 19 ans, elle siège au Conseil d’Administration de la bibliothèque de Plattsburgh, elle devient éventuellement présidente du Comité de Restructuration de Plattsburgh.  Elle a reçu plusieurs prix prestigieux, notamment celui du Plattsburgh Business and Professional Women, de Seton Catholic Central, du Plattsburgh City Council et du Plattsburgh Air Force Base. 

Sister Theresa Martel was born in Ancienne-Lorette, Québec, Canada.   She entered in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis, over 55 years ago.   She has consecrated her life to  the  education of the children in  the  northern  region of  the  State  of  New York.  Sr. Theresa taught first in Keeseville and Redford. She founded the 'Our Lady of Victory Secretarial School’ in Plattsburgh. For 35 years, that school was, for many young men and women of the region, the preparation for a business career. She taught and served as chief administrator in that school until it closed in 1993. She, then, continued her teaching career for six other years at Clinton Community College.  Sr. Theresa Martel served for 19 years on the Plattsburgh Public Library Board and was named chairperson of the City of Plattsburgh’s redistricting Committee.  She received honors from schools and Civic groups including the Plattsburgh Business and Professional Women, Seton Catholic Control, the Plattsburgh Common council and the Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
