Winds of Hope
International Session of Formation
Vannes, Summer 2005

Version française

Maison de fondation, Vannes

From July 10 to August 3, 2005, Sr. Geraldine Hagel,
the members of the International Formation Team
and 16 sisters of temporary vows from 3 different cultures

(Haïti, Madagascar, Senegal), plus their respective
 directresses of  formation
Sr. Marie-Rose Boursiquot,
Sr Marcelline Raseliarinoro and  Sr Marie Blais,
met in Vannes to share in an
experience of internationality.
(cf. Decree 2000)

Jesus’ question to Peter “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than…”
was the theme that inspired the entire session. By means of these few lines, the participants are pleased to share with you the fruits of their journey.

“During the three weeks, we, the Sisters of temporary vows shared in an atmosphere of trust and openness.
It was a great way to tour   Madagascar , Senegal , France , Canada and Haïti. We marvel at having been
given the opportunity to live in the historical setting of our Foundress, of having been granted the possibility
to explore the sacred story of her life, the charism she bequeathed us and to re-examine
the evangelical counsels. Through the entire experience we were made more acutely conscious of our
commitment to be witnesses of Christ’s love at the heart of humanity.”

“Our international experience has awakened us to the rich components of our charism. It has helped us appreciate the values inherent in all cultures which inspire us with audacity and greater openness to risk new ventures. The concern regarding our responsibility to work for new recruits in the Congregation was reawakened.  Moreover, this international   experience has energized us to accept our distinctive identities while building a lifestyle of simplicity based on dialogue and respect.

Through her entire lifetime, Mother St. Louis was challenged by enormous difficulties. Her strong faith sustained her to the very end. We have come to understand better those circumstances under which certain statements were made. This re-awakened awareness invites us to a greater love for our country.
The session has deepened the perception of  our identity as an international congregation. This reality is an invitation to conversion and the acceptance of our mutual differences.

“To have lived out our internationality in an atmosphere of sharing, openness, acceptance, listening, trust, respect of difference is a great joy for us. We were given the opportunity to deepen further the meaning of the charism bequeathed to us by our Mother Foundress, the vows that mold us into givers of life and community lived out in authenticity and love. Among the amazing fruits gleaned during the retreat is the strength that Mother St. Louis obtained through the sacraments, God’s presence in children, and a well-ordered rhythm of daily living.

We are now fired with the desire to let go of our crutches to launch out again with renewed confidence on the road we have chosen. We want to pursue our commitment as each day, we create newness in our life  and thereby contribute to the wellness of our communities."

Sr Myrtha Civil

“Women, disciple of the Risen One, with a passion for a new world, do you love me more than…”   “Release the riggings, hoist the sails, launch into the deep and throw out your nets.”  “Such are the life-giving words that became the «leitmotif» of our international session in Vannes where Jesus invited us to embark with him and listen to the wind of the Spirit. We were given to understand that life together depends on the collaboration of each. To share and accept the truth is an excellent means to contribute to its communal well-being. The world needs the witness of community for its transformation.

May the name of charity that we bear be lived out in the spirit of atonement willed by Mother St. Louis.
We thank each of you for continued prayer that accompanied us during
this session. Many thanks to you, members of the International Formation Team. Misaotra indrindra, djardieërf, mèsi anpil
(thank you very much) to Sister Geraldine Hagel,
our general Superior for being present among us during
  the entire international experience.”

MESSAGE OF SISTER GERALDINE HAGEL, S.C.S.L.
GENERAL SUPERIOR

The  international meeting of the Sisters of temporary vows in Vannes in July, 2005
with young professed Sisters from Haïti , Madagascar and Senegal and their respective directresses of formation has blown a strong wind of hope across the Congregation.

Animated and personally guided by the members of the International Formation Team and inspired by other experts, the Sisters have deepened their understanding of the consecrated life lived in community for mission. With zeal they have manifested their commitment as
"Women, disciples of the Risen One with a passion for a new world.”

As these weeks of renewal, both human and spiritual draw to a close, I believe the 16 participants have encountered Jesus Christ at a profound level; they discovered the interior and sometimes complex responses to Jesus’ question :  "Do you love me more than…?" This encounter with Christ has freed and transformed
them to return to their respective provinces and country as responsible women, energized by
the charism of Mother St. Louis to live in communion
with one another and with the whole Congregation.

Dear Sisters of temporary vows, I thank God for the many graces granted you during this session lived
at the birthplace of the Congregation. I pray that you will have the passion to continue
your journey with Jesus Christ and commit yourselves totally to his mission of love.

I express my gratitude and that of the members of the general Administration, to all the
Sisters of the Congregation who have accompanied the temporary professed with their prayers
through this session. I address my deep appreciation to the Sisters of the Motherhouse who have
so graciously surrounded us with their wisdom, warmth, prayers and welcoming presence.

A heartfelt thank you goes to you, Sister Marie-Thérèse Le Roux
for the retreat on Mother St. Louis and to Sister Marie-Christine Béranger, f.m.m. for facilitating the sessions on consecrated life.
To the directresses of formation
of our young professed – special thanks.

Members of the International Team of Formation, during the last
four years of selfless giving of self, you have invested much enthusiasm and energy to implement the call of Decree 2000 :
to propose international experiences for different stages
of religious life. Wishing you God’s choicest blessings,
I express very heartfelt thank to each of you!
