Le dévoilement et la bénédiction tant attendus  d’une murale  à l’École Saint-Louis,
  Medicine Hat, a eu lieu par une très belle journée d’automne, le 24 octobre 2003.  Cet événement était au cœur de la célébration du 200e anniversaire de fondation de la
Congrégation des Sœurs de la Charité de Saint-Louis.

The long anticipated unveiling and blessing of the wall mural in St.Louis  School, 
Medicine Hat, took place on a beautiful fall day, October 24. This was a celebration within the celebration of the Sisters of Charity of St..Louis’ 200th anniversary as a Congregation.

Anne Murtagh,s. c.s.l., supérieure provinciale des Sœurs de l’Ouest canadien, prononça une intéressante allocution  sur l’histoire des Sœurs de la Charité de Saint-Louis 
à Medicine Hat
An interesting  talk on the history of the Sisters of Charity of St.Louis at Medidcine Hat was delivered  by 
Anne Murtagh, s.c.s.l,  the leader of the Sisters in Western Canada, before the unveiling and the blessing of the 
wall mural in St. Louis School.

Medicine Hat a une place spéciale dans l’histoire des Sœurs de la Charité de Saint-Louis de l’Ouest canadien.    En 1911, deux Sœurs venaient explorer la possibilité d’enseigner dans une école catholique que Fr. Cadoux rêvait d’ouvrir. [...]  Même si d’autres couvents ont été fondés par la suite,  c’est à l’École Saint-Louis où tout a commencé que nous avons préféré laisser un mémorial à l’occasion de notre Bicentenaire. [...]  Nous voulions célébrer la vie de notre Fondatrice et de toutes les femmes qui se sont engagées à sa suite, jusqu’ici.

Medicine Hat has a special place in the history of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in the West.  In 1911, two Sisters came to explore the possibility of teaching in a Catholic school that Fr.. Cadoux dreamed of opening. [... ]   Though other convents were established, it was in
St. Louis School where it all began and where, appropriately, we wished to leave a remembrance in honour of our bicentenrary. [... ] We wanted to celebrate our Foundress’life and all the women who followed her, especially to here. 

Sister Anne Murtagh,  remercia ensuite la Commission Scolaire Catholique  d’Éducation d’avoir accepté qu’une murale commémorative  soit exécutée à l’École Saint-Louis et de continuer fidèlement la mission d’éducation catholique, commencée en 1911, avec l’établissement 
de la première école. 
 Sister Anne Murtagh, also thanked the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education for granting permission to have this commemorative mural in St. Louis School  and for carrying on the mission of Catholic Education, begun in 1911 with the establishment of the first school board.

La murale de briques  est l’œuvre d’un artiste de Medicine Hat, Mr. James Marshall; c’est Father David Meadows qui  l’a bénite. 

The  brick mural is the work of a Medecine Hat artist,  Mr. James Marshall. Father David Meadows blessed it.

Les élèves de l’École Saint-Louis et leur directeur, Mr. Kelly Wilkinson, participaient à la fête.  Ce dernier souligna que cet événement attendu depuis un an avait été  préparé tout au long de l’année par différentes activités. 

The students and their principal, Mr. Kelly Wilkinison,  participated to the feast.   This latter emphasized that the children,  that had been waiting for more than a year for the event,  had prepared it through many activities.

La murale représente la Fondatrice, Marie-Louise-Élisabeth de Lamoignon de France, qui recueille  une jeune femme de la rue. En retrait de  la Fondatrice, on aperçoit une sœur qui  continue son œuvre d’éducation  dans une classe à l’équipement contemporain.  Le Christ et saint Louis
veillent sur  la scène.

The mural depicts the Foundress, Marie-louise-Élisabeth de Lamoignon of France, with a young woman whom she rescued from a life on the streets.  Behind the Foundress, one sees a contemporary classroom with a Sister of Charity of St. Louis. Christ and saint Louis
overlook the entire scene.
